Hood Strikes North, the twelfth volume in the award-winning Great Campaigns of the American Civil War series, covers the desperate November 1864 offensive undertaken by General John Bell Hood's Confederate Army of Tennessee, which marched from northern Alabama into central Tennessee in an attempt to capture the Union stronghold at Nashville in a lightning stroke. As a player of Hood Strikes North, you control either the Union forces under Maj. Gen. George Thomas—the legendary "Rock of Chickamauga"—or Confederate forces comprising Hood's Army of Tennessee. In turns representing one day of real time, players maneuver infantry and cavalry units on a game map created from actual Civil War-period maps located in historical archives. Nine historical scenarios are provided, ranging in size from small, one-day engagements that can be completed in under an hour to the full 32-turn campaign covering the entire Confederate effort to capture Nashville.
