Великі Луки: Північний Сталінград

The Battle of Velikiye Luki, sometimes called The Stalingrad of the North, was fought during the Winter Campaign of 1942-1943. It was part of the northern pincer of the Rzhev-Sychevka Strategic Offensive (Operation Mars). The Soviet objective was to liberate the Russian city of Velikiye Luki and to cut the north-south rail line to the west of the city. Velikiye Luki was crucial to both sides. To the Germans it was a bulwark protecting the vital railway supplying Army Group North, which passed through Novosokolniki some 20 kilometers to the west. The loss of that rail line might have forced Army Group North to lift the siege of Leningrad.

Великі Луки: Північний Сталінград is a small and uncomplicated 2-player game that reproduces the key events of the Veliky Luki operation. The game uses the basic mechanics of wargames — control zones, terrain effects table and combat results table, so it will work well as a starter game for beginners, but will also be interesting for experienced players, allowing both players to use different plans.

Note: Players will need to have a one six-sided die.
