Against the Odds Magazine #32

Against the Odds magazine investigates military history from a broad perspective. The economic, political, religious and social aspects of warfare are examined in concert with events on the battlefield. Each issue of ATO features: Informative and insightful articles showcasing the history behind events, plus regular columns by noted game designers providing insight on the latest trends and events.

Game included in this issue — Birth of a Legend: Lee and The Seven Days. "Granny Lee" was what his troops in West Virginia had called him — and worse — when his plans there failed with some disastrous results. The troops around Richmond called him "The King of Spades" and resented the trenches he ordered, yearning for the return of the wounded Joe Johnston. Later, they would call him "Marse Robert", after he had risen to become one of the best-loved and most aggressive commanders in American history. That change began over the course of a single week, better known as the Seven Days campaign. There both North and South had their first great chance at making a quick end to the war, and each missed it. But the legend of Robert E. Lee was born.
